DUTCH OVEN APPLE COBBLER
SERVES 4
YOU’LL NEED
FOR THE APPLE MIXTURE
1½ lbs apples, sliced
¼ cup granulated sugar
1 tbsp cinnamon
FOR THE CRUMBLE MIXTURE
1 cup flour
¼ cup granulated sugar
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp cinnamon
¼ tsp salt
¼ cup butter, cold
¹⁄₃ cup milk
MAKE IT
1) Core the apples and cut them into slices. Add them to the Dutch oven and sprinkle with ¼ cup sugar and 1 tbsp cinnamon. Stir to coat the apples in the cinnamon and sugar.
2) Combine the dry ingredients (flour, baking powder, ¼ cup sugar, 1 tsp cinnamon, salt) for the crumble in a mixing bowl.
3) Cut the butter into small pieces and add to the bowl. Using your fingers, rub the butter into the dry ingredients until a crumbly meal begins to form.
4) Add the milk and gently combine to create a dough.
5) Tear off bits of dough and place on top of apples. You want little pockets of dough spread evenly around, not one large blob of dough in the middle. Place in an oven set to 400 degrees; if cooking with a campfire, set the lid on the Dutch oven, then place oven on hot coals, and cover lid with an even layer of hot coals.
6) Bake for 30 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown.
